Sustainable V8 project – The numbers so far

Three months into our project of running The British Motor Show 5.0 litre V8 Mustang in a sustainable way, in partnership with eBay and things are looking impressive. We’ve not taken it easy on the car, but despite this we can’t help but be impressed with the way it’s going.
Donuts and Don’t starts
Over the last month the Mustang has racked up even more miles going on show with our friends at Petrolheadonism for their fantastic Petrolheadonism Underground event at Wembley, as well as hitting the track at Rockingham, all whilst running on Sustain by Coryton.
And it was at Rockingham, that we left the car in the trusted(?) hands of Sam Hard – who proceeded to put the car through its paces by doing donuts before hitting the track!
Now, we’re not suggesting this was the cause, but not many days later the Mustang developed a problem.. You can check out the video for all the details, but in short we started experiencing an issue with the clutch inertia switch that was stopping the car from starting.
Luckily for us, our official partners at eBay where on hand when we needed them and we were able to get the switch ordered and replaced in no time at all, ensuring we didn’t have the embarrassment of not turning up to showcase the car at Petrolheadonism Underground
4116 miles and the numbers are impressive
Since we embarked on this project (you can catch up here if you’re not up to speed) the Mustang has covered an impressive 4116 miles, but how sustainably has it done them? The numbers so far make encouraging reading for all classic car fans and are below:
Miles covered so far – 4116
Total CO2 produced had we been using regular fuel – 2448.31 KG
Actual CO2 produced using Coryton Sustain (at 85% saving) – 674.78 KG
Total CO2 saving 1958.36KG of CO2
That’s the equivalent of 1000 fire extinguishers or 320,000 bottles of coke – numbers not to be ignored.
And of course, this is based on our “Gas Guzzling” V8, which means that the saving that a regular classic car would see would be even more impressive.
We’ll be continuing to watch the numbers and report back and revealing the findings with a panel of experts on The eBay Live Stage at this years British Motor Show. If you are a classic car owner or someone who can’t yet make the move to Electric keep watching this space for more information.
